The brief was to design a high density residential scheme on a constrained, town centre site in Watford.

Overlooking issues meant that windows could only face two directions which creates areas of featureless, flank facade. Out of this, the strata concept was conceived. Like the strata effect naturally found in geology, the proposal involves the use of three brick colours, laid in bands which gradually transition from one tone to another.
